Scotts Selkirk 2008

”Welcome to Scott’s Selkirk 2008!

The dates this year are Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th December

Plans are well under way,  with many old favourites returning and several new additions for this year’s event.

Our famous Ghost Walk starts proceedings off on the Thursday evening.

Friday evening – come and dance at the Ceilidh at the Victoria Hall, and be sure to get your tickets for the terrific Saturday Night Grand Concert!

We are particularly pleased,  following their successes last year, that the Sheriff Court is opening on both days,  and  the Borders Youth Theatre will again be performing in The Dry Bar.

This year there are events runnning  both days in Selkirk Library – including architectural tours of the Old Jail Centre,  performances by Tweed Theatre,  and children’s activities.

Both days begin with a Costume Cavalcade, starting from Mungo Park on Saturday, and Selkirk Parish Church on Sunday.

St Joseph’s Primary School is hosting a craft fayre and coffee morning, with traditional children’s games on the Saturday.

The County Hotel is again very generously hosting literary events on the Saturday and family orientated performances on the Sunday.

The County Pend will again be transformed into the Port of Leith – bustling with stalls and activity, and with musical and dance performances.

Halliwells Museum is again open on the Saturday,  hosting children’s activities,  and the ever popular court cases will be performed each day in Walter Scott’s Courtroom.

There will be a craft exhibition in Selkirk Parish Church and a Quilting Exhibition in the Lesser Victoria Hall.

Be sure to attend the Rotary Christmas Charities Bazaar in the Victoria Hall on the Saturday.

The town’s own Flute Band,  Silver Band,  and Pipe Band will be on hand,  providing their own wonderful entertainment.

The Selkirk Rhinos will re-enact the Carterhaugh Ba’ game at the Bog Park on Sunday – come and watch the fun

Remember to pop in to Ye Olde Tea Shoppe at the Catholic Church.

Meg Dods’ kitchen at the Hermitage will be the focus for food and traditional entertainment.

The High Street and Market Place will be transformed into a Georgian christmas market,  with stalls and fantastic street entertainment, including, of course,  our very own French Prisoners.

Visit our lovely local shops,  taking part in the treasure hunt as you go.

In The Market Place  -  Don’t miss  Music, Mirth and Mulled Wine concluding outdoor activities on the Saturday,  or the fantastic Belmont Fireworks grand finale on the Sunday!

The full timetable will be published just before the event,  and information will be available throughout the weekend at out HQ at  1 Tower Street.

We look forward to seeing you there.”
