Course Overview:

This course is aimed at all those wishing to learn or develop existing acting skills for the medium of film, but who cannot commit to a full-time schedule. Taught by an acting coach and professional film director over the course of 14 weeks on two evenings per week (7.00 pm to 10.00 pm), you will learn core acting skills as well as all the technical skills necessary for you to perform confidently in front of a camera. You will act in filmed exercises and also shoot exercises yourselves so that you know what it is like to be on the other side of the camera.

Learning Objectives:

  • To gain more confidence in acting for the camera by understanding the filmmaking process in its entirety
  • To know the difference between acting for theatre and acting for film
  • To know and to have practiced the tools necessary to create a believable performance on screen
  • To have come up with valuable tools for the actor to prepare for a screen performance including how to interpret a script
  • To understand the technical aspects of film acting such that the actor feels confident on the set and can give the director (and camera operator) what they want
  • To be able to read a script and identify whether the characters are 3-dimensional or not
  • To have gained an insight into how to survive as an actor in the marketplace
